There are a number of factors to consider when you choosing home siding. 

Architectural Style - some siding sdon't lend themselves to certain designs. An experienced siding contractor can help guide you on the best siding choice as well as how to make your home look as good as it possibly can. 

Neighborhood - You  may consider walking your neighboring streets to see what siding types are most prevalent. Homes that fit into a neighborhood tend to sell better than those that stand out. 

Climate - Some siding materials don't lend themselves to certain climates. Vinyl and wood siding, for example, don't fare as well in climates with high UV or dramatic temperature changes. 

Insurance - You may qualify for a discount on homeowners insurance when you re-side with masonry or fiber cement, because they are both durable and non-combustible. 

Maintenance - Consider how much time you want to spend maintaining your siding.  If you don't like to work on your house, avoid wood and wood composit sidings, as these options require frequent upkeep and re-painting. Cement fiber is a great consideration for our Pacific Northwest Climate. 

Cost - The cost of re-siding varies but as a rule of thumb, vinyl and wood composit are on the lower side of cost, fiber cement is in the middle and cedar and masonry are at the upper end.
